Zykanova received her Bachelor of Science in political science from UCLA (cum laude) in 2008 and her Juris Doctor from UC Hastings College of the Law (magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, Thurston Society) in 2012. At UC Hastings, Zykanova served as the Lead Articles’ Editor for the Women’s Hastings Law Journal. While in law school, Zykanova interned at Monterey County Public Defender’s Office and San Francisco Public Defenders Office where she wrote and successfully argued numerous motions, conducted an evidentiary hearing, and assisted in all facets of client representation in a wide range of felony cases, including felony DUIs, drug matters, theft, and offenses involving domestic violence. Prior to joining Ferrentino & Associates, Inc., Zykanova clerked at the Orange County Public Defender’s office and assisted with over 70 motions arguing for dismissal of convictions and reduction to misdemeanors of serious felony matters.
Before attending law school, Zykanova worked for a variety of non-profit organizations, such as Center for Living and Learning that assisted individuals who have been convicted by the criminal justice system in obtaining job skills and employment. Zykanova was instrumental in creating a job search preparation program that to this day helps countless individuals obtain jobs notwithstanding their criminal convictions.
